Evening on the Charles – 195/365

Recently I attended a technology user group in Cambridge Massachusetts. As I looked out the window I noticed the evening sun was just hitting the buildings in Boston on the other side of the Charles River. I took out my best camera (the one I had with me, of course) and fired off a number of shots using different points in the scene to focus on. Later I used the trusty HDR software to combine three shots from the iPhone to create the image we have here. Considering that I took this with a camera phone through the windows of an office building, I’d say the results aren’t half bad.

The Carnival Sleeps

Last week was the local Apple Blossom Festival. There were different events throughout the week, such as a carnival for four nights and a big parade on Saturday morning. (I think I even heard fireworks on Saturday night but I haven’t verified that observation. Anyway, the carnival was set up in the parking lot of a local school just outside the center of town. I ended up at that school during the day for one reason or another while the carnival was there. The carnival only runs at night during the week, so everything was quiet and all the machines were shut down and packed away. Aside from a couple workers doing maintenance on one ride the place was deserted. I wandered about, camera in hand, looking for photos hidden amongst the quiet machines.

Sunset Over the Creek – 076/356

There was a lovely sunset in our area today. I spotted it out the window while I was getting the kids ready for bed and I ran outside with the camera to shoot it from over the creek. This view is almost the opposite from the "Beauty and the Beast" shot from a couple nights ago. The stones at the bottom of the frame are the top of the stone bridge visible in that other photo. It really is a pretty view, and I am glad drive slowly past and admire it each time I leave the house in this direction.

Uplifting

Looking into the sun on a lift at Alpine Meadows. It won’t be long now before the snow is falling here in New England. We’ve had about an inch of snow one day recently, which quickly melted away when it got warm the very next day. Soon there will be regular snowfall and it will be time to take the kids to the local ski mountain.
