This was a hip-shot taken in passing, but it’s also my favorite photo of the day. Sure, there were other pictures with pretty flowers and the older kids showing off, but this kid is just so handsome. Must be the random artistic framing. Judging from the catch-light I must have been holding my speedlite in the other hand.

Squash from the CSA stuffed with and herbs, covered in homemade sauce and shredded cheese. No, I’m not turning this into a food blog… there are plenty of folks who do a much better job at that than I ever could. No, just a semi-random photo of a meal that my wife was particularly proud of. Today’s photo was a toss-up between this a semi-random photo of the beach where I dropped of the kids for day camp. It was an OK picture of the water, but I thought this was a better picture of a yummy meal.

I had planned on using the for a photo shoot, not _in_ it. This is my aged and beloved 550EX with the cable attached.  The batteries were dead this night, so I just took this under low ambient lights before calling it a night.

Craftsmanship sure has changed, or at least lost value IMHO, in recent years. This is the head of an interior design pillar in an old home outside of Boston. I imagine this is all hand carved and lovingly assembled, and the rest of the home has equally beautiful details throughout. For this shot I splashed it from the side with my speedlite.

I’ve been giving in to the fact that the kids don’t eat their crusts when we send sandwiches to school with them. Rather than let the good crusts go to waste, we have been cutting them off as we make the sandwiches and giving the crusts to the baby or to daddy. I’ve found that using a cookie cutter also works well, so the kids often get ginger-bread man or Christmas tree shaped sandwiches.

The other day I used a small star shaped cookie cutter, and I thought the resulting mini-sandwich were too cute to pass by without photographing them first. I’d like to say this beautiful light if from our window, but really I just bounced the speedlite off the ceiling again.

There’s a rhododendron bush on the side of our house. I don’t do much to tend to it, and it usually has pretty lackluster results. This spring it made a few nice flowers though, and I was able to make at least one good photo from them. Lit with both natural sunlight and a single strobe bounced off a reflector to camera left.

The kids at my daughter’s preschool made an interesting art creation out of paper . After a few days I finally managed to show up at the school with my camera and in hand and did a little shooting. I was thinking that it would be some awesome creation of and light and color, but the results seem to have fallen short of my expectations. Still, I do think it looks kinda cool… especially for a preschool art project.

A friend recently invited me to photograph his marine aquarium. I knew going into this that there would be challenges but what a great opportunity for a new experience. With glass reflections, mixed lighting, and color blends, it took me a lot of photos to get through to what I wanted. In the end I’m pretty happy with what I got. I was particularly attracted to the clown fish and their sea anemones.

Those sock-munching monsters sure are hard to track down! Not long ago I did a photo with me investigating a mysterious light coming out of the dryer. Well, I needed to do some repair on the dryer recently so I thought I would do a follow-up to that earlier posting. This wasn’t my favorite photo from the day, but given the planning and effort that went into it I wanted to use it in the project anyway.

Here’s another secret… I accidentally inverted photos 113 and 114 in the sequence. This photo was taken the day before the Tequila Sunset photo. Oh well. Just another pitfall of not posting every day I guess. I’ll just upload this as the next one and pretend nothing happened.

Been enjoying being home during the day to work on house projects, but the photo project is still suffering. We had drinks at a friend’s house the other night and I turned my viewfinder on the big bottle of tequila we were drinking from. This little star-burst thingy on the bottom was interesting as a pseudo-abstract. Happy shooting everyone!
