I had seen a blog post about the effects that a “rolling shutter” can produce when taking pictures of moving objects. With a rolling shutter, like the one in my iPhone, the image is scanned from top to bottom one line at a time. Things that move quickly can appear to be skewed because they are in a different spot at the end of the exposure than they were at the beginning. I took this photo from the passenger seat of a car going over a bridge outside of Boston. The cityscape in the distance looks fine, but the post and the railing are clearly leaning to the side as a result of the rolling shutter effect.
