On my recent trip to Austin I spent part of an evening photographing the Texas State Capitol building. It’s a really gorgeous building and it was hard to pick the “one” photo for this day’s project entry. I’m sure I’ll be doing a post on my blog to showcase all the lovely photos from this shoot. This view is of the back of the building, which has a number of interesting features not seen from the front. In the very foreground of the picture is the top of the “shark tank”, an inverted dome concept that borrows down five stories into the ground. Also worth noting is that Texas flies its flag alone on this side of the building, a statement hearkening to the fact that they may decide to succeed from the country entirely. I like the light in the windows in this photo, part of which is reflection and part of which is light from inside the building. While it’s not too late in the evening in this shot, the sky is dark from a thunderstorm that is quickly rolling in. Not long after this shot I needed to hop back on the bike and duck into a restaurant before I got soaked in the rain and potentially struck down by lightening. Glad I went out before the storm, this is a really beautiful building to photograph.
