My son recently participated in a regional taekwondo competition. The lighting in the room was not great and I was really feeling the woes of my slow lens. I did manage a few good shots using a high ISO and doing lots of noise correction afterwards. It was this day that I decided I needed to spend the money on some high-end glass for my camera, something with a decent zoom and a great big aperture. Anyway, here’s the boy clearing the jump line with ease. Good job Kid!

what lens did you use, and what lens are you thinking about getting? i’ve often considered getting the “starter” “L” zoom lens, canon 70-200mm f4, they go for a decent price on ebay…

On this day I used the kit lens that came with the T1i… the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS . While I am looking at the 70-200mm, I would probably opt for the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM… It’s more money now but I would be hard pressed to justify the upgrade later. I am also considering the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM as I think that would be a better everyday lens than what I’m using now. Stepping up to the bigger aperture is going to be an important factor for me.
