Rub It In – 052/365, originally uploaded by JMaz Photo.
Today I completed another woodworking project for the home. I love to use this oil for a wood finish, much more so than something like a lacquer finish. With the oil I just sand the wood smooth and rub in a couple of coats of the finish and I’m done.
I really love the transformation the wood goes through the moment a finish is applied. Suddenly the wood takes on a warmth and glow that just wasn’t there before. Building something by hand is rewarding enough, but it’s when that finish goes on that a project is no longer a work in progress but a handmade work of art.
I added light to the workshop by bouncing a Speedlite off a half-sheet of white pegboard at camera left. There are also classic fluorescent shop-lights overhead. Had a hard time picking “the one” shot from the shoot and went with this one and it’s contrasting angles and repeating sets of three.
