Fine art photography and prints

This was a hip-shot taken in passing, but it’s also my favorite photo of the day. Sure, there were other pictures with pretty flowers and the older kids showing off, but this kid is just so handsome. Must be the random artistic framing. Judging from the catch-light I must have been holding my speedlite in the other hand.

A lot of people think my wife is kind of a wonder woman. I know that she’s a Super for sure. I don’t need to go into details, but between the kids, the house, her work, and her life, there’s a lot that she juggles every single day. So while I’m looking for my daily photo inspiration, here she is plugging away at one of her projects on her computer.

Recently I attended a technology user group in Cambridge Massachusetts. As I looked out the window I noticed the evening sun was just hitting the buildings in Boston on the other side of the Charles River. I took out my best camera (the one I had with me, of course) and fired off a number of shots using different points in the scene to focus on. Later I used the trusty HDR software to combine three shots from the iPhone to create the image we have here. Considering that I took this with a camera phone through the windows of an office building, I’d say the results aren’t half bad.

Another attempt at an iPhone HDR shot. Captured these on the run just after a partner meeting in northern Massachusetts. I think it came out OK, but certainly nothing fantastic from an artistic or technical standpoint. Always love being by the water though!

Squash from the CSA stuffed with sausage and herbs, covered in homemade sauce and shredded cheese. No, I’m not turning this into a food blog… there are plenty of folks who do a much better job at that than I ever could. No, just a semi-random photo of a meal that my wife was particularly proud of. Today’s photo was a toss-up between this a semi-random photo of the beach where I dropped of the kids for day camp. It was an OK picture of the water, but I thought this was a better picture of a yummy meal.

When I was a kid my parents did their best to avoid going into Boston. Most of my memories of Boston involve driving over this huge elevated highway that disected the city. While I was away in California, Boston undertook the “Big Dig” project to the put that and other roadways underground. The results have been fantastic… the city is now inviting and walkable, with this beautiful greenway where an ugly highway once stood. Every time I cross the greenway I still stop to admire the beautiful views. One thing is for sure… my kids memories of the city will be very different than mine!

I was recently honored with the invitation to be the photographer for a New Hampshire local wine-makers meet up. For the most part I hung out in or behind the crowd and took candid photographs of the guests. We did some group shots too as the party wound down, and then I slipped off to do some creative shooting down in the wine cellar. I’ve got a lot of good shots that I’m looking forward to sharing! Here’s one of my early favorites for the 365, and then back to working on my real favorite pic from the night.

The skys in my area have been so very dramatic lately. With many small storms passing through, the clouds have been a persistent presence for me for photograph. Oh, there’s some cool looking building here too.

Getting to coals ready to grill the evening’s meal. I love the way the smoke is so pronounced as it rises from the coals.

I was pretty certain that I neglected to take any photos on this day. It was inevitable that I would come around to processing the daily photo and have to face that fact. Well, as it turns out, There is in fact a photo for the day. I have been experimenting with scanning in business cards using the camera on my iPhone. While a straight shot of someone’s business card is mighty unexciting, this tilted crop seems to do the trick just a touch better.
